Everybody has a moment in his or teenage life when he thinks about the hilarity that would ensue by putting bubble bath is a hot tub. The reality is that adding bubble bath to a portable spa will only cause problems. While it may seem funny or romantic to sit in a cloud of nice smelling foam, once the bubbles go away, those romantic feelings will flee with them. Bubble bath soap sticks to the components of jacuzzis and can ruin filters and heaters by causing build up that could burn the heater out. According to a Pool and Spa News article ed on BNET.com, bubble bath also changes the balance of the water. Once the chemical become unbalanced, it is easier for bacteria to grow and establish itself, which can lead to hot tub related illnesses such as folliculitis and hot tub lung. Hot tub lung develops when a person has an allergic reaction to bacteria in the vapors that come from unclean spa water. Folliculitis is a skin rash, which again, develops from sitting in spas and hot tubs where the water has not been sanitized and is filled with bacteria. Both ailments can be treated, but are extremely uncomfortable, and truthfully, avoidable as long as the hot tub is maintained properly. So as fun or romantic as bubble bath may sound, it is best used in the bathtub, not the hot tub.
