How to Personalize Your Cubicle
By kathrynv on Jun 19, 2009 in Business

Do you have to work in a cubicle? Many people find it depressing to spend their days sitting inside of their own little cube. The best way to combat this feeling is to personalize your cubicle. Make it your own little space.
Great easy ways to personalize your cubicle include:
- Get a funky chair. A really unique office chair can change the feeling of the space.
- Use a fun screensaver. Make your computer a fun thing to look at by using a screensaver that you enjoy.
- Put up photos. These don’t just have to be the usual family photos either. Hang up silly photos that make you laugh.
- Hang bold jewelry on the walls. Necklaces and earrings are light enough to hang on cubicle walls without weighing them down. They add texture and color to your space.
- Write out favorite quotes on colorful paper. Song lyrics can also be written down. Tack these up inside your cubicle.
- Get a toy or stuffed animal. Put a little bit of playfulness on your desk.
- Grow a plant. Having a living thing growing in the cubicle can make it feel a lot better!
What other tricks and tips do you know of for making a cubicle space a bit more personal?

I’m not sure if this would be work appropriate for my office; the office seems very strict about what it does and doesn’t accept for your cubicle decorations. Any tips on toning it down a little?

I hate to be a debbie downer here, but isn’t this all a little distracting? Your work space is supposed to be just that–a WORK space–not the new hot place for a luau. If anyone in my office did this I’d probably ask them to take it down.

I love the idea of having a little plant in your cubicle! It keeps your air nice and fresh and I think it gives you a little something extra in terms of a mood booster, which is always a good thing! Now if only you could package sunshine…

I think one of these ideas on their own would be a burst of much needed office energy and creativity, but all of them in connection would be excessive. It’s all about balance, and balancing your productivity with distraction and office structure.

I have a great lime green ergonomic office chair. It’s my baby! Every time I look at it, it peps me up a little bit, and it’s so comfortable I can sit for hours with out distracting aches and pains. Definitely a good idea!
